Have you heard of Cory Doctorow and his Publisher’s Weekly articles on getting a book to market?
This past December he wrote Zen and the Art of Self Publishing
and last month, The Early Returns, in which he explains the two major mistakes he made in self publishing- thinking a popular blog would generate enough hype to sell the book and not trying to get traditional reviews. Then he reveals that, after expenses (mostly boxing, sewing and shipping $275 limited editions, then paypal and lulu costs) he made $21,000 in the first SIX weeks.
I don’t know about you, but that’s more money than I make in SIX weeks.
I also learned that you can only make 70% of the sale price of your book on Amazon if you price it at 2.99 or more. At 99 cents, you only make 35%.
